12/10/12: The 2012 Resurrection Fishing Derby winners are: Bob Norling and Mark Shinman of Anacortes won the big prize of $10,000 with a 15.67lb chinook from day one. Kris Maudslin, Troy Unke and Mike Sorenson of Seattle took second place with a 14.68 pound chinook and earned $2,500, and third went to Kevin and Duane Zender with a 14.46 pound chinook and won $1,500.
The total boat weight went to Troy Moe’s team with 93.56 pounds of fish and won $1,000.
The 2012 Resurrection Fishing Derby, organized by the Fidalgo-San Juan Islands Chapter of the Puget Sound Anglers, took place December 7 and 8, at the Port of Friday Harbor. More than 200 fish were caught by 75 boats. All net proceeds from the derby, which is staffed by club and community volunteers, will go directly towards salmon enhancement projects. Last year’s proceeds of $6,900 was donated to the Glenwood Springs Salmon Hatchery on Orcas Island for the purpose of sustaining salmon production.
