Stocking Information:Alta was rehabilitated in fall 2011 and was retsocked with 14,000 catchable rainbows, plus 1,000 larger 1-2 lb fish in spring 2012.
Location:Okanogan County Southwest of Pateros
Directions:Take U.S. 97 to Pateros. Take Hwy 153 north from Pateros two miles until you get to the turnoff to Alta Lake State Park. Turn left and continue for 2 miles until you reach the park entrance.
Facilities:State park with camping, toilets, and concrete boat ramp. Alta Lake State Park has 15 tent site facilities, and more than 30 RV sites with full hook-ups, restrooms, showers, and a boat launch. There is also a small fishing store with tackle.
The easy access of of U.S.97, full array of facilities, large size, and productive trout fishing makes Alta one of the Okanogan’s most popular lakes. Heavily stocked with hatchery Rainbows, it provides good fishing into the early summer and again in the fall. Most of the trout are pan-sizers of 9″-13″, but Alta always produces husky carryovers in the spring, some into the 20″ category. Try trolling Wedding Ring spinners, behind pop-gear. I have found that most anything works, from worms, to green Kwikfish or Flatfish, or any of your favorite spoons. Fishing from the shoreline try using a slip sinker with at least a 48″ leader baited with Powerbait, and or marshmellows.
Season:Fourth Saturday in April through September 30th open season.
